Sanctioning Bodies -  Are the organizations which make the rules governing races and race cars. They also promote, referee and pay the winners of races. Each Sanction or Association is likely to deal with several types of vehicles. Another characteristic is that some sanctions such as NHRA and IRL promote only touring series, while many others sanction individual tracks or groups of tracks. Some, like NASCAR, sanction both tracks (Called International Speedway Corporation) as well as tours or series such as SPRINT Cup Series.
